FONTONA

Its historical origins are testimony that some of the inhabitants were involved in the drawing up of the “By-laws of Levanto” in 1482.
This village, thanks to its position and small population, is able to offer its visitors a tranquil atmosphere, far from traffic and the hustle and bustle of every day life. It is most definitely the ideal place for those who love the sea but wish to be surrounded by the countryside. And for the more curious you can see the old farming traditions, such as the old water mill, (transformed into a private resident); which has maintained the old façade, (the old water basins, the wheel, the millstone made from sandstone); or the old olive press, now out of use for the past twenty years but still has the mill-stone made from Levanto’s red marble.

WHERE TO GO SHOPPING:

There are four supermarkets with Italian and International products.
There is a daily fruit and vegetable and fish and shellfish market. And once a week on a Wednesday, there is a small general market which sells clothes, household goods, cosmetics and hosiery. Above all, there is a vast selection of bread shops, green grocers and general foodshops.

SHOPPING:

Levanto has a vast array of shops: from sportswear to top fashion, shoes, sailing and scuba-diving equipment, stationers, perfume shops, health food shops and handicrafts. And with the locals’ guidance you can try the typical products and wines from the area.

ENTERTAINMENT:

Levanto has two cinemas open all year and another two outside cinemas open only in the summer.
There are many pubs and bars where you can dance and drink. ( In the summer months there are various parties on the beach).
Also during the summer months there are classical and pop concerts, dance shows, theatre and other cultural exhibitions.
